What the plans assume

Patio and walkway plans assume 4 x 8 in pavers, 2-3/8 in thick, on 4 in of compacted gravel base and 1 in of bedding sand, for foot traffic. Wall plans assume standard 4 in tall wall block with a rear lip, up to 3 ft of exposed height on firm, level ground. Soil, frost and drainage vary: a soft, wet or clay site may need more base. Tonnage is an estimate; yards sell by the ton or the yard and round up.

Your plan

A plan is for your own project. You may not resell or share it. If something on your plan is wrong, write to us and we will fix it and send you the corrected plan.

Safety and permits

Call 811 before you dig. Walls that hold back a driveway, a slope above them or more than 3 ft of soil need an engineered design and often a permit.
